Russell Lee Cross, Jr.

Russell Lee Cross, Jr. 63, of Decatur, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 19, 2020. He was of the Pentecostal Faith and a lifelong resident of the area. He enjoyed working on old cars. He was a mountain man and enjoyed piddling outside.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Bessie Gatlin Cross; brothers, Bate, Herbert and R.J.; sisters, Christine Anderson, Francis Clay and Reba Lay; and nephew, Vernon Hooker.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his fiancé, Judy Wheeler; daughter, Dwan (Jeff) Long; son, Rustin Cross; stepdaughter, Shonda (Mark) Bunnell; siblings, J.L. (Ruby) Cross and Rosie Young; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

The family will receive friends from 5:00PM – 8:00PM on Sunday, February 23, 2020, in the Chapel of Companion Funeral Home located at 2415 Georgetown Road in Cleveland. Additional visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2020 from 11:00AM until the 2:00PM service time at Cohutta Hills Community Church located at 5551 Red Clay Road in Cohutta, Georgia. Pastor Sammy Randolph will officiate the funeral service, and a graveside service will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to help cover the cost of the funeral through giving at the visitation or through Crowdfunding.
