Obituary for Roger Earl Segar
Roger Earl Segar, 88, of Cleveland TN passed away peacefully at home on February 27, 2023.
A Funeral Mass will be held for him and his wife Lillian on March 20th at 11 am at St Therese of
Lisieux Catholic Church at 900 Clingan Ridge Dr NW in Cleveland. Fr. Michael Nolan will be
officiating. Visitation will be held from 10am-11am at the church. Burial of their ashes will be
done at a future date in the family plot in Connecticut.
Roger was born in Willimantic, CT on December 18, 1934. Roger served in the US Navy as a
boiler technician aboard the USS Midway. He loved his time in the Navy and would often say
that he would go back in if he could.
Roger was married to Lillian Hall on May 23, 1959 at St Joseph’s Church in Willimantic,CT. They
were married for 57 years until her death on November 22, 2016. They were devoted to each
other and their two children.
Roger owned Segar’s Auto Sales in Mansfield Center, CT from the late 1950’s until 1981. In
1981,after moving to Cleveland, TN Roger worked as a truck mechanic. His hobbies included
stock car racing, bowling, and skeet shooting. In retirement he was a model train collector and
dealer. Roger was a long time member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his daughter Nancy McCann and son-in-law Jesse McCann of Cleveland, TN,
sister Beverly Young of Connecticut, brother-in-law David Martin of Connecticut, step
grandchildren Amanda and Jesse Blake McCann and nephews and nieces.
Roger is preceded in death by his wife Lillian (Hall), son Roger James Segar, sister-in-law
Caroline (Hall) Martin, brother Glen Segar, and sisters Joyce, Vivian, and Sandy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St Therese of Lisieux church 900 Clingan
Ridge Dr. Cleveland, TN 37312.
