Obituary
Robert Franklin “Bob” Sain well known business man, civic leader and loving husband, father and grandfather died Sunday, November 3. A native of Mocksville, NC, he was the son of the late Frank and Marie Corriher Sain and also preceded in death by his first wife Erroll Owen Sain and a brother George Sain. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Jane Dyer Sullivan Sain, two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn Marie and Larry Weathers of Cleveland, SuEllen and Larry Noelck of Louisville, KY and one son, Tom Sain and wife Deborah of Omaha, NE. Other survivors include siblings, Flora Tucker of Wilmington, NC, Mary Martin, Annie Shelton and Margaret Eudy and Earnest Sain all of Walnut Cove, NC and three grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are three step children, Emma Jane Haile, Martha Foster and Julian Sullivan. Bob was a US Navy veteran of World War II having served in the European Theater, Africa, Italy and France in the Mediterranean Theater. He joined the JC Penney Company where he worked and managed stores through out the southeast until coming to Cleveland in 1968. He retired after 43 years. He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church having served on a number of committees. He was active in civic affairs including being a member and past president of the Chamber of Commerce, member and past president of Cleveland Rotary Club, past president of the Cleveland Boys and Girls Club, past president of Junior Achievement and an active volunteer of the Bradley/Cleveland United Way. He received many civic awards including the Robert Varnell Jr. Leadership Award. Bob was a member of the Tri State Rose Society and took great pleasure in sharing his beautiful roses with friends and shut-ins in Cleveland. He was a long time member of the Cleveland Country Club where he loved playing golf. Bob was best known for his work with Habitat for Humanity which he and members of the Methodist Men of Broad Street United Methodist Church chartered. Bob had a direct impact on the lives of over 70 families and thousands of volunteers through the years. A nine home subdivision bears his name, Sain Village.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 at Broad Street United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens at 11:00 AM Wednesday and conclude with full military honors.
The celebration of life Service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday in the sanctuary of Broad Street United Methodist Church with the Reverend Randy Martin, the Reverend Skip White and the Reverend Charles Lipps officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made in Bob’s memory to either Habitat for Humanity of Cleveland, Broad Street United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
