Robert “Bob” Torbett, Sr. After a hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Robert “Bob” Torbett, Sr., passed away peacefully at his home in Cleveland, TN on Sunday, November 24, 2019, at the age of 80.
Bob was born on February 18, 1939 to Willie and Elizabeth Croft Torbett of Englewood, TN. He grew up in a large family with 7 sisters and 4 brothers and moved to Cleveland, TN in 1959.
Bob was a retired carpenter and an avid outdoorsman who had a passion for rabbit hunting and raising beagles. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and taught them the simple things in life like planting a garden, whittling a stick, using a flip, and how to get water from a spring.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Elizabeth Croft Torbett; brothers, Greeley Torbett, Azel Torbett, and Jay Torbett; sisters, Reba Land, Audrey Mitchell, Ann Garrett, Ola Martin, and Nadine Roberts.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving devoted wife of 57 years, Janie Renner Torbett; sons Robert (Connie) Torbett, Jr., Oscar (Suzi) Torbett, and Terry (Robin) Torbett, all of Cleveland, TN; grandchildren, Chuck (Rachel) Torbett, Sara Torbett (Kliness DeButy), Natalie (Michael) Knight, and Kasey Torbett (Brandon Morgan); great-grandchildren Jackson Knight, Finnley Torbett, Maggie Torbett, and Cooper Knight; brother, Charlie (Dianne) Torbett of Englewood, TN; sisters, Della White of Cleveland, TN and Sue (G.C.) McInturff of Englewood, TN; two special nephews, Billy (Diane) White of Etowah, TN and Tommy (Diane) White of Decatur, TN; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 29, 2019 from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM in the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Flint Spring Cemetery with Michael Knight, Brandon Morgan, Kliness DeButy, Warren Varnell, William Varnell, Eric Renner, Carson McCracken and Wayne Varnell serving a pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews.
