Robert Allen Gentry, a devoted family man, and a proud navy veteran, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2023, in his hometown of Cleveland, TN. Born on May 11, 1947, he brought joy into the lives of those around him with his funny, loving, and kind nature.


Robert was the second-born of seven children to Charles D. Gentry and Annie Gentry. His sisters, Brenda Corbin and Alma Sue Gentry, brother Dowless Gentry, and daughter, Angela Denise Gentry, preceded him. His surviving relatives include his adored wife of 57 years, Bernice Fowler Gentry, and two sons Jeffery Allen Gentry (Tonya) and Tony Gale Gentry (Charla). Robert was also a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Christy Ridgeway, Felicia Rymer (Billy), Blake Hackney, Ashelee Gentry, Jeremy Clark (Tiffany), Zachery Clark, Elijah Gentry, and Charlee Gentry. They blessed him with seven great-grandchildren: Lemuel Ridgeway, Blayze Crawford, Remington Ridgeway, Ketan Rymer, Kaden Rymer, Kaelee Clark and Avery Clark . Robert also leaves behind his siblings: Nora Hollifield, Charles Gentry (Annette), Lisa Bowers (Allen), and numerous nieces, nephews, and longtime childhood friend Joe Martin.


Robert's dedicated service to his country in the Navy was a significant chapter in his life, and he wore that pride throughout his lifetime. After serving in the navy, he worked as a Bradley county police officer. Later, he found his stride as an over-the-road truck driver, a career he pursued until his retirement. His vibrant personality and commitment to his profession left a lasting impact on all those that had the good fortune to cross his path.


Despite his demanding professional commitments, Robert was a man who prioritized his family, showcasing it through his actions as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was passionate about life and took every opportunity to engage in his interests, which included hunting and fishing. More than anything, he relished making time to spend with his family, creating precious memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.


Robert's life can be defined by his kind heart, generous spirit, and sharp sense of humor. His legacy of love, dedication, and caring will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Resting now, Robert Allen Gentry's life of significant contributions will serve as a beacon of inspiration in the lives of those he leaves behind.


Robert's family will receive friends from 5pm until 7pm on Wednesday August 16th at the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 7pm.
