We are saddened to announce that Rita Ann Dunbar, age 84, of Cleveland, TN, has passed away on February 8, 2025. Rita was born on September 24, 1940, in Hillingdon Uxbridge, England. She moved to the United States in 1963, after she met her husband, John Dunbar, while he was stationed in England with the military. Rita's love for life shone through in her work as a florist, and she proudly carved carousel horses that grace the Coolidge Park Carousel in Chattanooga. She is also known for the many years she decorated cakes for H.C. Brill. Rita also had a love for travel that took her to many places including the Great Wall of China and the Egyptian Pyramids.
Rita is preceded in death by her parents, Eric and Emily James, and her beloved husband, John. She leaves behind her loving children, Frankie Dunbar and Roxanna Dunbar, and her cherished granddaughter, John Matthew Gober (Kristen). Also surviving are her stepson, Kamdyn House, and her fur babies, Claire, Bailey, and Jack.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Rita's life on Wednesday, February 12th. Visiting hours will be from 10 AM to 12:00 PM at the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home, located at 2415 Georgetown Road NW, Cleveland, TN 37311. A special celebration of life service will follow at 12:00 PM, with burial to take place afterward in Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN.
