Mr. Richard “Rick” Gerald Davis, Jr. (52) passed away peacefully on April 3, 2017 from aging complications of Cerebral Palsy. He was born in Florence, AL on February 12, 1965.
He was preceded in death by parents- Richard Davis, Sr. and Kovalene (Graham) Davis, and grandparents- Gus Branson Davis and Mildred Norman Davis, and Ethel Graham and Koval K Graham.
He is survived by his sister- Kristi “Kris” (Davis) Twitchell, two nieces- Alexis (Ryan) Turner and Kelsey Twitchell, nephew- Nicholas Twitchell, and grandmother- Pat Graham.
Rick grew up in Tennessee where he attended Brainerd High school. He was salutatorian of the class of 1983. Rick then went to college at the University of Memphis (Memphis State). He was magna cum lade and received his degree in mathematics and a minor in computer science. Following college graduation, Rick was the bookkeeper for his family’s business. He then dedicated 22 years of his life working for Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). He retired on September 30, 2016.
Rick was an active member of the State of Tennessee’s council on developmental disabilities and always advocated for himself and others. He loved playing soccer for the Chattanooga Speeder’s Power Soccer league from 2005-2010. He served on the CARTA Advisory Commission and was instrumental in implementing handicap accessible CARTA busses as well as establishing a service that would transport handicap patients to their appointments.
A celebration of life service is planned for 6:30pm on Thursday April 6, 2017 at the Berean Baptist Church, located at 441 Berean Lane, Hixson, TN 37343.
To honor Rick, the family asks that those attending the service wear crimson and white to remember his love for his favorite team, Alabama. Rick’s wish was to have to have a party, so the celebration will also be a potluck dinner. Please bring your favorite dish to share.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Humane Educational Society of Chattanooga, special needs department. These donations may either be mailed to 212 N. Highland Park Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37404 or they can also be given to the family at the service on Thursday night.
