Rebecca Wood

Rebecca S. Wood, age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in the care of Hearth Hospice of Chattanooga, surrounded by her family. She was born February 2, 1938, in Newton County, Mississippi, to the late Rev. John Clark Sansing and Myrtice Nelson Sansing. She earned a degree in education from Mississippi College in 1960, following her graduation from Valley High School in 1956. She married the late Edward Allen Wood on February 2, 1962, in Biloxi, Mississippi.

She served the local church as a pastor's wife in several states while teaching special education until she retired in 2005. She was actively involved in the WMU (Women's Missionary Union) in the places where her late husband served as pastor.

After relocating to Cleveland in 2006, she actively joined the First Baptist Church choir until she reached a point where she could no longer participate. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Myrtice Sansing, husband Edward, sister-in-law Glenda Sansing, brother-in-law Thomas Cain, and sister Mary Beaty.

She is survived by her children, John Wood and wife Rhonda of Cleveland, TN, Sharon Page of Savannah, GA, Andy Page of Cornelia, GA, David Wood and wife Terri of Orlando, FL, and Sarah Wood of Arlington, VA.

She also has six granddaughters (Hannah, Morgan, Abigail, Lauren, Bailey, and Rhiannon), a grandson (Benjamin), three grandsons in-laws (Matt Bridges, Ben Hay, and Greg Faunce), four great-grandchildren (Ellie, Baby Bridges, Seth, & Maddox), brother David Sansing, brother Allen Sansing and wife Betty, brother Joseph Sansing, and wife Rita; sisters, Francis Cain, Mattie Mims and husband Billy, Esther Alexander and husband Charles, and Deborah Royals and husband Ed, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7pm on Friday September 22, 2023 at First Baptist Cleveland, with a funeral service to follow. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at Sunset Cemetery in Madisonville, TN at 10:00am on September 23, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gideon's International, First Baptist Cleveland Generations, Compassion International (www.compassion.com), or New Missions (www.newmissions.org).
