Rebecca Hix Whaley

Rebecca Ann Hix Whaley, age 71, of Cleveland, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 27, 2018,

Becky graduated from Brainerd High School in 1965 and went on to study accounting at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Mrs. Whaley was a member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA). She was active in rabbit breeding and showing of rabbits in the Southeastern portion of the country, and at the state, regional, and local levels for many years.

Becky is preceded in death by her grandparents: Charles and Vera Yates; her parents: Julian and Margaret Hix; and her son-in-law, Rufus Sanders Whaley, II.

Survivors include her husband of almost 35 years, Sanders Marvin Whaley of Cleveland, one daughter, Anne Irwin Thomas, and her grandson, Walker Thomas of Ringgold; her brother, Charles Bradford Hix of Ringgold; daughter-in-law Karen Whaley of Ooltewah; four step-grandchildren, Rufus Sanders Whaley, III, of McDonald, Cassie Young of Huntsville, Tennessee, Brinn Shultz and Sarah Thurman of Decatur, Tennessee; and step-daughter, Rebecca Thurman of Decatur, TN, along with many other, great-grandchildren, and other family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 3-4pm at Companion Funeral Home: Cleveland Chapel. The service will follow at 4pm with Mr. James Blanks officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to your local county extension office to assist the 4-H program help youth in your area to explore animal science.
