Raymond Hardy Long

Raymond Hardy Long died peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at the age of 91.

Raymond was born to the late Ernest and May Repass Long in Hawkins County, TN. He was

preceded in death by his sons, William and James both of Athens; his siblings: Marie Long

Cramer of Pensacola, FL; Walter “Jack” Long of Etowah; and Albert Long of Decatur; nephews,

Ernest Standridge of Pensacola, FL; and Jerry Standridge of Ozark, AL.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Willie Nell Bryan Long – his sunshine; great-

granddaughters, Alicia Hope Fairbanks and Caitlyn Long; granddaughter, Nicole Long; daughter-

in-law, Lisa Long all of Athens; brother-in-law, Carlos Bryan of Cleveland; nieces, Darlene

Crutchfield of Pensacola, FL; and Wanda (Reed) Brown of Etowah along with many other

nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He proudly served in the

US Army during the Korean Conflict followed by five years in the TN National Guard. Raymond

retired from Frigidaire Company (Athens Stove Works) after 41 years of service. Following his

retirement from Frigidaire, he continued to work for the Latham family service station and car

wash for many years. Raymond was a lifelong member of Clearwater Baptist Church.

The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 10:00-11:00 AM with

the service to follow at Companion Funeral Home of Athens. All are welcome to attend and

celebrate Raymond’s life.
