Raymond Goins

July 4, 1940 — January 11, 2025

Johnny Raymond Goins, 84, a resident of Cleveland, TN went home to be with his Lord and Savior, in the early morning of January 11, 2025 at Etowah Healthcare Facility in Etowah, Tennessee where he became a resident almost 2 years ago, after the passing of his loving wife. He lived a long life. He outlived his wife of almost 66 years, his mother, father, brother, and two of his sons. The last 8 years of his life have been very different after he and his wife were involved in an automobile accident, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down and in a wheelchair. Before the accident, he was very active, he loved the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, working in his yard and putting out a garden. He also loved his dogs. He had many through the years, the last two, being Tiny and Sugar Baby. He worked for Cleveland Utilities for many years as a lineman. After retiring, he worked as a painter with his daddy, James C.L. Goins and his son, Richard Goins.

He was the son of the late James C.L. Goins and Bertie Bennett Goins. He was preceded in death by his wife Sammie Jean Shelton Goins, infant son Raymond Keith Goins, son Richard Goins, brother, Junior Goins, stepmother Katherine Goins Roark, grandparents Mary and Jasper Henry McCarter and Marvin and Jewell Goins.

Mr. Goins is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Angie (Robbie) Defriece, son and daughter- in-law, Mitchell (Ramona) Goins, grandchildren, Anthony and Ashley Harris, Chanda and Kendall Herron, Chris and Ashley Defriece, Chad and Cody Goins, and Zach and Stacy Roberts. Great- grandchildren; Kain Moffett, Stella Harris, Hailey Harris, Raine Harris, Kayla Herron, Makinley Herron, Tucker Herron, Bentley DeFriece, Madison Goins, Carolina Goins, Gwendolyn Roberts, and Easton Roberts. His sisters; Joyce Krafft and Jamie (Otis) Davis, sister-in-law; Sue Shelton Higby and brothers-in-law Bill Higby and J.R. Pickens; several special nieces and nephews, along with several special friends.

Our family would like to thank Etowah Healthcare Facility in Etowah, TN., for caring for our loved one. Thank you to ALL of the nurses, CNA's, doctor's, counselors, activity director, chaplain, office staff and ALL workers and staff who had a part in our loved one's care. Thank you to those who visited him and came to check on him, and to all of those who would come back after their shifts and after the family had left for the night. This means so much to the whole family. We will be forever grateful to you ALL. Thank you to the wonderful team with Amedisys Hospice in Athens, Tn., who cared for him over the last four weeks. Thank you for ALL you have done for our loved one and our family. Thank you for ALL of your kindness, compassion, thoughtfulness and your big hearts. Thank you also to the pastor who visited our loved one and led him in the sinner's prayer, when he gave his heart to Jesus, he will now be with Jesus, his loving wife, and other family member. Thank you to ALL who have prayed and will continue to pray for our family during this time.

The Celebration of Life Service for Raymond Goins will be held on Thursday, at 3:00 PM at Companion Funeral Home Cleveland Chapel. His family will receive friends at a Visitation: Thursday, at 1:00 PM at Companion Funeral Home Cleveland Chapel.
