Peggy June (Parker) Blackmon died after a courageous fight against cancer on Monday, January 1, 2024, in Decatur, Tennessee. Peggy was the third child born to parents Lloyd and Betty (Parker) Rice on July 30, 1952, in Troy, New York.
Peggy lived in the Albany, New York area and later moved to Cayuga, New York. Peggy graduated from Union Springs Academy in 1970 and continued her education at Southern Missionary College (now Southern Adventist University) in Collegedale, Tennessee. That is where she met her future husband, Larry Blackmon. They married in 1971 in Auburn, New York. Peggy continued her studies and earned her Bachelor's Degree in nursing. She worked as a registered nurse until her Retirement.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband, Larry Blackmon, three children; Tracy Cheek (Lonnie), John Blackmon (Missy) and Joshua Blackmon (Candy); Eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother, Betty (Parker) Rice, brothers Fred (Susan) Parker and Don (Patty) Parker, sisters Yvonne Winter, Olive Parker and Martha (Philip) Ellis as well as many nieces and nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Parker, and stepfather, James Rice.
Peggy was a talented artist. She enjoyed crocheting, painting, quilting, gardening and raising horses. She was especially fond of the Paso Fino breed. Peggy was beloved by all who knew her.
A memorial service in celebration of Peggy's life will be held at the Decatur Seventh-day Adventist Church, 165 Ridgeview Street, Decatur, TN on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 1:30 pm.
