Pansy Jane Emerson McIntosh, 85 passed to her Heavenly home peacefully on Thursday afternoon May 26, 2022, surrounded by her family.
The smell of fresh baked yeast rolls drifted through Heaven Thursday afternoon as Pansy Jane Emerson McIntosh made her place in Heaven’s kitchen. Hundreds of students went through elementary school at George R. Stuart smelling those rolls just about the time their stomachs started to tell them they were hungry. Not only did she fill their stomachs, some days, she filled their hearts and other days, she made sure they behaved in the lunch line!
Miss Pansy, P. J., mom, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother was definitely the leader of her tribe. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Samuel McIntosh and her parents, William T. Emerson and Delta Sarah Hamby. Also, her siblings: Eula Mae, Dorothy, Betty, Laura, Charles, and Buck.
She is survived by daughters Debbie Hybarger Bethune (Stan), Robin Hybarger (her devoted caregiver) and son, James Barry Hybarger. Also, Suzy McIntosh Rainier (Robert), Cathy McIntosh Thurman (Tim), Amy McIntosh Davis (Dennis) and John McIntosh IV (Kelly). Her grandchildren adored her even though she insisted that they have manners and respect others—they are Jacquelyn Whitley (Spencer), Corey Davis (Robin) Coby Hybarger, Anthony Otellio, Lacy Hybarger Greer (Zach) John McIntosh V (Lydia) Tyler Thurman, Katie Thurman. Great-grandchildren—Madison, Hannah, Capri, Trinity, Colton, Piper Jane, Lake, Aiden, Paisley, Zane , Zachary, Kinsley, Echo, Maddux and Maccoy; her beloved siblings: Joyce Elrod, Ken Emerson (Linda) and Pat Flanary (Jim).
She was a homemaker until her girls were in school when she went to work in the cafeteria at Stuart School—where she had a long career. Even after retirement, she continued in food service at First Baptist Church of Cleveland. She was a longtime, very active member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. It was her pleasure to work with the Cumberland Cares program for the less fortunate—she had been blessed beyond measure.
Her birthplace was Rockwood, Tennessee but moved to Cleveland at an early age with her family. Her earliest job was with the sock mill in Cleveland. There was never a dull moment around her as she loved going to Parksville Lake,
Cleveland Speedway, Braves and Lookouts ballgames, auctions, the beach and the casinos in North Carolina. We are sure the sales of Dr. Pepper will plummet immediately since their largest consumer has now moved on.
You always knew where you stood with her---no gray areas with her. There were lots of cards and texts sent with words of encouragement and love to those around her. Many loaves of bread, pots of soup and freezers of cherry pineapple ice cream passed through her kitchen.
Keep the rolls hot Mom and the butter soft till we get there!
Visitation will be Sunday afternoon, May 27, from 2-4pm at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, with a brief celebration of her life at 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to may make a contribution in Pansy’s honor to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 694, Cleveland, Tennessee 37311.
