Norman Schmidt

August 4, 1945 — August 24, 2024

Norman Schmidt, 79, passed away on August 24, 2024, in Cleveland, TN. Born August 4, 1945, in San Francisco, CA, he was preceded in death by his father, Hilmer C. Schmidt, and mother, Shirley Andrews.

Norm enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp at 18 years old, and served the country he so loved during multiple tours in the Vietnam War. He received several medals, commendations, and awards for his service.

As a former motorcycle racer, mechanic and master machinist, he continued to enjoy watching motorsports throughout his life. He was a passionate fan of music and loved watching The Voice. Norm had an amazing mind, and a knack for designing and creating. He never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand to a friend. He loved a good meal, especially when shared with those he loved.

Norm's life was defined by his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He dedicated his life to exploring and deepening this relationship as he journeyed toward his Heavenly Home. He took a life-changing pilgrimage to the Holy Land, where he used his love of photography to capture the places he visited, allowing these memories to be shared with family and friends through his published book.

Remaining to celebrate Norm's memory are his daughters, Fabrianna Venaducci and Connie Maurer; one grandchild, Merc Luteman; and one great-grandchild, Silas. His joyous spirit is carried on through his extended family and cherished friends.

He will be laid to rest during a ceremony with Military Honors at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 10 am. A private Celebration of Life will follow immediately after in Cleveland, TN (friends wishing to join may speak with the family prior to leaving the cemetery for details).

Norm's legacy will be that of a man who dedicated his life to developing an ever-deepening relationship with Jesus and living his life as an act of service to God. His positivity, laughter and enthusiasm for life will be greatly missed.

The staff of Companion Funeral Home, and the Cody family, are honored to serve the Schmidt family.
