Nelson "Dub" Raburn, 90, passed away on December 1, 2024, in Cleveland, TN.
Dub was born on May 15, 1934 in Hamilton, AL, to Wes Raburn and Margaret Tice.
Nelson graduated from high school in Adrian, MI in 1952.
He started his career as a minister in the Church of God of Prophecy shortly thereafter and went on to minister in six states, pastoring 19 different churches over the next 50 years. He also was involved in state work for the Church including being the caretaker for the Church's biblical park, Fields of the Wood and the North Carolina State campground. He was also one of the last surviving airplane pilots in the Church's "White Angel Fleet."
Nelson married Betty Akers of Worthington, Kentucky in Adrian on August 8, 1954. The couple had two children, Bettina Cannon, of Cleveland, and Donna Bedenbaugh of Charleston, SC.
Nelson was best known for playing his guitar for many years at the Church's General Assembly.
Nelson is survived by Betty Raburn - wife, of Cleveland, Bettina (David) Cannon - daughter, of Cleveland, Donna Bedenbaugh - daughter, of Charleston, SC and grandchildren, J.D. Cannon, Megan Bedenbaugh and Katie Joubert.
Nelson is preceded in death by his brothers, L.V. and Jimmy Rayburn; and his son-in-law, Dr. Marvin Bedenbaugh.
The general visitation will be Decembe 7, 2024 at 11am with the memorial service to follow at noon at Companion Funeral Home, 2415 Georgetown Road NW, Cleveland, TN.
Memorial donations can be made in Nelson's name to Fields of the Wood.
