Mildred Callaway

Mildred Roy Pinion Callaway, age 104, passed away on April 22, 2024. She was born on July 19, 1919, in the Christianburg Community near Sweetwater, Tennessee, to her parents Harriet Isbell Roy and George A. Roy. She grew up on a farm with her family.

During World War II Mildred worked at the Hardwick Woolen Mill sewing wool overcoats for the U.S. Army during August. After the War, she worked for Pinion Jewelry Company which was located in the lobby of the original Cherokee Hotel in Cleveland, Tennessee.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, John Pinion, and her second husband, Eugene Callaway. She was also preceded by her siblings, Nita Robinson, Ben Roy, Louise Snyder and Martha Cooke.

She is survived by her stepson, Michael E. Callaway (Phyllis); grandchildren Libby Callaway, Nashville, TN, Millie Parks (Matt) Nashville, Marie Kellner (Jeff) Boise, ID, Mike Burkland (Jaquil), Tucson, AZ; great grandchildren Ava and Maddox Parkness, Nashville, and Rorie Jane Kellner, Boise, ID. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Suzanne Shaw and her family, Texas. Mildred is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

Mildred was the oldest member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church Cleveland, TN at her passing.

The family would like to thank her niece, Nora R. McNeill, Garden Plaza employees, Hearth Hospice and Helping Hands for their loving care.

Mildred's funeral will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 2 pm at St. Luke's Episcopal Church at corner of North Ocoee Street and Central Avenue, Cleveland, TN, with Rev. Joel Huffstetler officiating. After the service, Mildred's cremains will be placed in the Church garden.
