Mildred Allen

September 25, 1927 — January 31, 2024

Mildred Underdown Allen, 96, of Decatur, TN, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Mildred was born on September 25, 1927 in Athens, TN, to the late Lee and Anna Underdown. She graduated from McMinn County High School and went on to work for the University of Tennessee for more than 30 years.

Mildred, aka "Mammaw", was known for her big-loving heart, compassionate soul, feisty spirit, and most of all, for being the matriarch of her family. She was of the Baptist faith. For many years, she was an active member of the McMinn Senior Activity Center and enjoyed playing cards with friends and family.

Most importantly, her heart belonged to her family and the people that were fortunate enough to call her a friend. Every single person knew they were loved without a doubt. She was the biggest supporter of her grandchildren and great-granddaughter and adored the time spent with them. Mammaw impacted many lives and was always kind and generous to all she came in contact with.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Anna Underdown; husband, Marion Francis (M.F.) Allen.

She is survived by one daughter, Pam Allen Peaden (Bryan); grandchildren, Tyler Peaden (Matthew), Tannyr Peaden and friend Kelby Sapp, Trey Peaden and friend Emma Grace Tuggle, and Tynsley Peaden and friend Hunter Clark; great-granddaughter, Charleigh Peaden-Crabtree.

Family will have a short visitation from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024, in the Chapel of Companion Funeral Home in Athens, TN.

Pallbearers include Bryan Peaden, Tyler Peaden, Tannyr Peaden, Trey Peaden, Matthew Crabtree, and Hunter Clark.
