Mike Buttrey

Mike Buttrey, 63, passed away on the 9th day of July, 2023 at home surrounded by his wife and family. Mike was born on December 16, 1959 in Cleveland, Tennessee to the late CE (Buddy) and Betty Buttrey. Mike grew up in Charleston graduating from Charleston High School in 1977 where he was a standout baseball, football and basketball player. He went on to play baseball his freshman year at Lee University. Mike earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from MTSU. Mike led an active life enjoying golfing, fishing, and gardening, always having a project he was working on although his primary focus was always his family. Thirty years ago, he came into our family providing us with love, guidance, wisdom and patience. During the last three years he exhibited enormous courage as he battled cancer and was an inspiration to us all.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Butch and Barry Buttrey. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Christy Thompson Buttrey, his son, Benjamin Buttrey, stepdaughter‘s Lauren Garner, Danielle (Barry) Semak, grandson Sawyer Semak, sister Sheila (Eric) Spencer, father-in-law Jim Thompson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mike worked 24 years as Journeyman Electrician with Adman Electric Inc, as Operations Manager with Aramark B&I, and most currently loved his job as a facility manager for Cushman Wakefield who continuously supported him throughout his illness. The family appreciates the staff of Hospice of Chattanooga for their care and concern. Graveside service and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. with Richard Burnette officiating. A luncheon for family and friends will be held following the service. at the residence of Jim Thompson, 284 Mowery Lane, Charleston, Tennessee 37364.
