Michael Ray Stewart, 71, of Chattanooga, Tennessee passed away August 15, 2019 at the Chattanooga Hospice Care Center from cancer. Mike was born October 22, 1947 in Brownsville TN to James and Ruby Stewart.

Mike was proceeded in death by his parents, sister Jaretta, and third wife Gabrielle Stewart. In 1966 he graduated from Tyner High School. Mike was an excellent student and athlete. He played basketball, football and baseball at Tyner. He attended Tennessee Tech where he graduated in 1970 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. That year he entered into the US Army as a Second Lieutenant. He served honorably for 21 years and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Mike was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he flew Cobra Helicopters. During his military service Mike received these medals: Bronze Star, Meritorious Service, Air, Army Commendation, Army Achievement, National Defense with Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign,Vietnam Service, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Bronze Star and Gold Star and Air Medal with Valor.

Mike is survived by daughter, Kristin Seaborn (Justin) of Chatsworth, GA, son, Scott Stewart of Sevierville, TN, mother of his children and first wife, Barbara McGhee Stewart of Chattanooga, grandchildren Jackson Seaborn, Kinley Seaborn, and Kiera Stewart-Thornton, sisters Brenda Groves (Barry) of Athens, GA and Martha Drayton (Don) of Castalian Springs,TN, brothers Joe Stewart (Marti) of Chattanooga and Sam Stewart (Bridget) of Frankfort, Germany, second wife, Paulette Stewart and her daughter, Melissa Jones (Rob) both of Fayetteville, GA.

On Friday, August 23, 2019 at 10:00 he will be honored with a military funeral at
Chattanooga’s National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Avenue, where he will be interned.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to Wounded Warriors Project.
