Mary Tinsley

Mary Ruth Tinsley, 96, passed away on December 27, 2024. She was born to the late Joe and Mary Cecil Climer Johnson on December 21, 1928 in Cleveland, Tennessee.

Mary enjoyed writing poetry, spending time with her family, reading the Bible, and solving crossword puzzles. Mary worked at Cleveland Utilities for 24 years. She was a devout member of Chilcutt United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 48+ years, David Kenneth Tinsley, and her 19 siblings.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Linda Carroll, Karen (Ray) McKay, Patti (Brent) Petitt, grandchildren, Lauren Steward, Chase Carroll, Rachael Rooken-Smith, Sierra Petitt, great-grandchildren, McKaylee Steward, Karleigh Steward, Noah Rooken-Smith, brother, Clint Eugene "Mick" Johnson, nephews, Kevin, Todd and Jeff Johnson, and many other nieces and nephews.

The family would also like to honorably mention the staff at Brookdale Senior Living and Adoration Hospice.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Companion Funeral Home - The Ridge Sanctuary with Chaplain Adam Jones officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made payable to Chilcutt United Methodist Church, C/O Rhonda Korn, 156 Gatlin Rd. Cleveland, TN 37323.
