Mary Helen Allen

Mary Helen Allen, 89, of Cleveland, TN passed away on January 4th, 2025. She was born on December 4, 1935, to the late Harlan and Pearl Harper.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 3 husbands: Dr. William Charles Ruble Jr., John Ramsey, and Eddie Allen; daughter Kathy Ramsey Huff; brother W.B. Harper.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter Kay Ruble Simpkins (Buddy); grandchildren: Kathryn Simpkins Jones (Will), Joel Simpkins; two great grandchildren: Harper Jones and Hadley Jones, and nephew James Harper (Terri). In addition to these she leaves behind numerous extended family members and friends.

She was a resident of Newport, Tn until 2017 when she moved to Cleveland, Tn to live with her daughter. While in Newport she was very involved in her church, English Creek Baptist Church where she was a charter member and assisted in leading the music. For many years she was employed by Detroit Gasket and Electro Voice. While she was able, she enjoyed visiting and shopping with her friends and later she liked to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! And, of course, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Mary Helen was known for her sweet demeanor, welcoming smile, and beautiful blue eyes.

The family would like to extend special thanks to her caregivers: Teresa Doyle and Shannon Grow, as well as Hospice of Chattanooga and Life Care Centers of Cleveland.

The family will receive friends at First United Methodist Church of Cleveland on Thursday, January 9th 4-5 pm with the service directly following. Interment will be in Newport, Tennessee on a later date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
