Mark Landrum, 59, passed away after a long battle with cancer on August 8, 2023. Mark was born on November 4, 1963 in Birmingham, Alabama. He moved to Chattanooga with his family in 1996. Mark was preceded in death by his parents: Robert Keith Landrum and Joan Landrum. He is survived by his wife of 31 years: Sara Starla Landrum, three children: Robert Daniel Landrum (Rebecca), Elizabeth Ann Landrum, and Keith Everett Landrum; and a cherished nephew: William Wensel. He was a member of Tyner United Methodist Church.
Mark graduated from Vestavia Hills High School in 1981 and joined the United States Army shortly after, where he was an infantryman serving in Germany. Upon his discharge from the Army, he became a police officer in Homewood, Alabama and worked for a number of years before moving to Chattanooga. Mark worked for the Tennessee Department of Transportation as a Highway Response Operator with the Help Program for fifteen years before retiring in 2017.
One of Mark’s proudest moments was serving as TN-187 Civil Air Patrol Chattanooga Composite Squadron Commander from 2009 – 2011, and the TN – 173 Cleveland Composite Squadron Commander in 2014. The Chattanooga Squadron received the Squadron of Merit Award while under Mark’s leadership. In 2011 Mark was the Tennessee Wing Director of Public Affairs, and served as the Deputy Public Affairs Officer for the Southeast Region of Tennessee. Among his many duties in the Civil Air Patrol, Mark undoubtedly influenced many young people to pursue careers in positions of leadership.
A memorial service will be held for Mark on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 5:00 PM at Tyner United Methodist Church, 6805 Standifer Gap Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421. Reverend Amanda Dean will be officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held immediately following the service at the church.
