Obituary

Marie Louise Davis Chaplin, 90, of Fernandina Beach, FL, passed away on January 30, 2014 at her granddaughter’s home in Cleveland, TN.
A native of Fernandina Beach, FL for most of her life until 1954 when she moved to Cleveland, TN with her family. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She moved back to Fernandina Beach in 1982 when her husband retired and settled in the family home until recently. She has been residing in Cleveland for the last few years with her granddaughter, Angel, who took care of her for the last 6 years.
She was an animal advocate and loved all animals and rescued many over the years. She was also actively involved in the preservation of the historical district of Fernandina Beach. She was known for her love of decorating and loved shopping. She was a true “Southern Belle” and being a lady was of the up most importance to her. She had an extensive collection of dolls and toys as well as “fashion pins”. You never saw her without one of her pins on. She loved her family and her door was always open. She never met a stranger and spent a lot of time just rocking on the porch and chatting with people at her Centre Street home.
She is preceded in death by her father, William Allen Davis, mother, Angel Starke Davis, brother, William Allen Davis Jr., husband Ernest Wilson Chaplin, Sr.
She is survived by her 4 children Elizabeth Angel Whitmire, Marie Louise (Snookie) McClure (Bill), Ernest Wilson Chaplin Jr., William Davis Chaplin (Dee). 8 grandchildren, Angel Clark-Denton, Kelly Taylor, Bill McClure, Jackie Whitmire, John McClure, Brooke Sperau, Jennifer Whitmire and Cameron Bowers. 17 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved pet Bandit whom she loved very much. Also, the family would like to say a very special Thank You to Donna Cansler RN, and staff of Guardian Home Care and Rene Collins PA., Janey Patton RN and Christy Cannon for going above and beyond in their profession in making “Mimi's” journey as comfortable as possible. We will forever be grateful for all the love and compassion they gave her.
There will be a memorial service at a later date where her final resting place will be with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to Ark of Cleveland, 240 Oak Street NW, Cleveland, TN 37311 or First Presbyterian Church of Fernandina Beach, for the Angel Davis Hall at 9 N. Sixth Street, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.
