Marian "Susie" Young

Marian Sue “Susie” Bates Young, 76, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 with her family by her side. Susie was a lifelong resident of Monroe County and spent many years managing the cafeteria at Tellico Plains High School. During her time at TPHS, she opened her heart and arms to every student and loved them as if they were her own. After retirement, Susie remained involved in the community by opening a game room, fundraising for the Tellico Plains Fire Department and the TPHS athletic department. She was completely invested in the betterment of her town.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Vannoy “Nano” Bates; brother-in-law, Jack Winters; the father of her children, Blake Young.

She is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Scott) Nicholson, and Lori Millsaps, four grandchildren, Luke Shepherd and Chelcee Peel, Joseph (Kali) Gray, Matthew Millsaps, and Leah Shepherd, two great-grandchildren, Braylyn and Avera Jade. She is also survived by two sisters, Sarah Winters and Sandy (Samir) Hakooz. Several nieces, nephews, other extended family members, special friends, and all her TPHS kids also survive.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home located at 111 Depot Street Tellico Plains, TN 37385. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until the 7:00 service.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank Stacey Watson and Avalon Hospice for the exceptional care they provided for our Mom and Mamaw.
