Margaret McCleskey Smith passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024, in Cleveland, Tennessee, surrounded by her loving husband and children. Born on August 1, 1954, in Woodland, GA, to Reverend Walter Scott McCleskey and Emily Woodall McCleskey, Margaret spent her childhood in Germany and various parts of Georgia due to her father's military and church appointments.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Walter Scott McCleskey, Jr., and Catherine "Cathy" McCleskey Oliver. Her spirit is lovingly carried forward by her devoted husband, Bobby Glenn Smith, and her children: Glendon Scott Smith of Bakersfield, CA; Erin Smith Howard (Mark Elton Howard) of Lexington, KY; Andrew Calley Smith (Jessica Henry Smith) of Rome, GA; and bonus son, Micheal Bradley (Cristian Ornelas Bradley) of Birmingham, AL. She will also be deeply missed by her cherished grandchildren, Callie, Maisie, Isaiah, and Lillian.
Margaret was a graduate of Piedmont College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She loved reading and had a passion for theatre, spending much of her youth and college years creating and designing theatre sets. In 1983, Margaret and Bob moved to Cleveland, where they raised their three children. Margaret was a dedicated member of Westwood Baptist Church and spent many years playing piano and keyboard in the orchestra. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, needlepoint, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Described by those who knew her as a warm and encouraging supporter, Margaret welcomed everyone into her home, including children in need of respite care while staying at the Baptist Children's Home in Chattanooga. In addition to her immediate family, Margaret is survived by loving friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Margaret's kindness, creativity, and unwavering love will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will forever remain in our hearts.
