Meg Metzger

September 22, 1980 — May 24, 2024

Margaret (Meg) Grace Veal Metzger, 43, passed away peacefully, May 24, 2024. Meg was a graduate of Bradley Central High School and attended college in Fresno, California. For several years she wrote for the Bradley News and the Chattanoogan. She worked in the restaurant industry in Cleveland including Gardner's Market, Café Roma, The Press, and Indigo. She also worked as a teacher's assistant for Cleveland City Schools for the past 16 years, mostly in Special Needs classrooms. She was an avid reader and a good cook. Meg had a special place in her heart for people who are left out, ignored, or undervalued. She was passionate in her day-to-day life about making connections with anyone (and everyone) in need and felt privileged to have the opportunity to lend a hand, even when doing so wasn't convenient or simple. Volunteering at the community kitchen brought her great joy and many new friends among the homeless community. Her laughter, attentiveness, and kindness will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by grandparents Fred and Mary Hembree, Eugene Veal, and a special uncle, David Veal.

She is survived by her husband Jim Metzger and his son Mat, daughter Rilla Metzger, mother Susan Shelton, father Frank Veal (Lori) of Johnson City, sister Emily Cole (Matt), brother Jared Cole, niece Kinsley Cole, nephews, Cooper Cole, Brady Cole and Porter Cole, all of Cleveland. Paternal grandmother Jane Veal of Palm Beach, Florida and many special friends and relatives.

There will be no service now. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later time. The family would like to thank the nurses in the ER and MICU at Tennova for their awesomeness. Also a huge thank you to Danielle with Family Care who coordinated the organ donation.

You are encouraged to share a memory of Meg and/or your personal condolences with her family by visiting her memorial webpage and guestbook at www.companionfuenrals.com. Companion Funeral Home of Cleveland is honored to assist her family with these arrangements.
