Lisa Bilbrey Hyder, 63 passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, after a three year battle with colon cancer. Her life will be celebrated at the Companion Funeral Home in Chattanooga TN with visitation to begin at 1:00 PM followed by services at 2:00 PM. She was born in Cookeville, TN, March 20, 1961. She was the 6th grade Putnam County Spelling Bee champion a fact she reminded us anytime her spelling was questioned. She went on to graduate from Cookeville High School as a National Merit Scholar Finalist and was awarded a Scholarship to Smith College in Massachusetts where she graduated in 1983. She served as a congressional intern for Al Gore Jr. Then went on to a career as a technical writer in the software industry. The last ten years of her life were spent as an office administrator for Southern Adventist University Online campus, History and Political Science and English Department. While at Southern Adventist University she was awarded the President's Award for Excellence in Community Service for her work in dog rescue. She is the past president of the Chattanooga League of Women's Voters. She was preceded in death by her older brother Gerlad Bilbrey and older sister Margret Bilbrey Crosby. She is survived by her husband Mark, sons Andrew and Benjamin, daughters-in law Briana and Anne, and her faithful dog Murphy.
