Lee Dockery of Kennesaw, Georgia and formerly Chattanooga, Tennessee was born October 9, 1938 in Moundville, AL. and passed Saturday, September 21, 2024 at home surrounded by his family following an extended battle with kidney disease. Knowing Lee is in heaven with his Savior Jesus Christ is a great comfort to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lonnie Mills Dockery, Warren and Ruby Clayton, brother and sister-in-law Don and Wanda Dockery, brother Randy Dockery, Sr., sister and brother-in-law Carrie and Henry Hobbs, in-laws Marvin and Polly Pierce, sister-in-law Sandra Pierce and Jimmie Dockery, the mother of his daughter.
Lee is survived by his wife of 41 years, Devonda Pierce Dockery, daughter and son-in-law Leslie Lee and Keith Cleveland, granddaughters Taylor Lee Hart and McClain (Jacob) Tallent and grandson Tate Tallent who brought much joy to Lee's life.
He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-by-love David Pierce, Pat Chester, Deborah and Larry McFarland, Denise and Jon Sorah as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Lee was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper of the 82nd Airborne Brigade completing 99 successful jumps.
He attended Marietta Baptist Church for several years until his declining health prevented him from doing so. Then he very much enjoyed watching Dr. Charles Stanley and other ministries on TV.
He was an avid golfer from the age of 9 when he learned to golf by being a caddy at the Lookout Mountain Country Club. Lee had an amazing 20 holes-in-one and continued to golf well into his 80's. He loved to say he was still "scoring his age." He realized his dream of playing many championship golf courses, including The Old Course in St. Andrews and others in Scotland.
Anyone who was around Lee very long knew he was a life-long fan of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide and he was always eager to give a hearty "Roll Tide!".
Lee will be remembered for his love and dedication to family, his sense of humor and contagious laugh and his love of God and country.
