Larry Stanley Shannon

Larry Shannon, 76, of Cleveland, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at his home with his wife by his side. He was born on April 7, 1947.

Larry graduated from Chattanooga City High School in 1965. He played football in high school and at one time tried out for the Atlanta Falcons. He was a lifelong avid Alabama Crimson Tide football fan. He greatly enjoyed being creative with his woodworking hobby. Larry was known for his sarcastic wit and ability to make people laugh. He could always bring a smile to everyone’s face.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Shannon; nephew, Mike Wells; and his parents, Cecil, and Carl Shannon.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 39 years, Maureen Connolly Shannon; stepson, David (Erin) Chung; his grandchildren that he adored, Nellie, Lucy, and Frannie; sister, Joyce Wells; and nephew, Frank Wells; along with a host of extended family and friends.

The family would like to send appreciation to Larry’s caregivers, Ashley, and Sherry, from Home Instead, Hannah from Cooke’s pharmacy for her thoughtful help, as well as his primary physician, Dr. Tammy Wingo-Salmond. And they would like to send a special thanks to the 911 officers who responded at the time of his passing.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at 7:00 pm at Companion Funeral Home of Cleveland. The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm prior to the service.

A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 11:00 am at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Cleveland, Tennessee.
