It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Owen Hatmaker, who left us on December 5, 2024, at the age of 83. Larry was born on October 26, 1941, to Owen and Dorothy Hatmaker, who have now preceded him in death along with his first wife, Jacqulyn "Detta" Hatmaker, and his brothers, Homer and Jerry Hatmaker.
Larry was a well-known and beloved member of the Cleveland community, particularly at Westwood Baptist Church, where he was active and even served as a security guard. He was the kind of guy who could tackle just about anything thrown his way-fixing things, answering questions, you name it. Quick-witted and always cracking jokes, he brought joy and laughter to everyone around him.
Larry was passionate about many things, including being a devoted member of the HAM Radio Club and a talented tenor with the Roaring 50s and the Cleveland Classic Choir. You could often find him working on crossword puzzles that challenged even the brightest minds, showcasing his incredible memory along the way. Larry proudly served in the United States Army and was a member of the Cleveland Gun Club.
He leaves behind his cherished wife of 15 years, Carol Hatmaker, along with his children, Phil (Connie) Hatmaker and Paige (Lee) Strickland. Larry was also a proud grandfather to Lauren, Kayelyn, Haley, Tyler, Victoria, Megan, and Brandon Strickland, and a loving great-grandfather to Laney, Gracelyn, Kaydence, Greyson, Skyelar, and Caleb. Larry is also survived by his sisters Anna, Carolyn, Sue, and Marsha, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss him dearly.
The family will welcome friends on Sunday, December 8th, from 1 PM until 3 PM at Westwood Baptist Church. A celebration of Larry's life will take place at 3 PM following the visitation, where we will share stories and memories that reflect the wonderful person he was. Larry will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
We invite you to share your memories of Larry or send your condolences to the family at his online memorial, located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral & Cremation Service and the Cody family are honored to assist the Hatmaker family with these arrangements.
