Katherine Nelson

Katherine "Memaw" Ann Nelson, 87, of Athens went to be with the Lord on May 16, 2025 peacefully at her home.

She was born on October 11, 1937 to father, Earnest Platt and mother, Margaret Reedy and had 2 sisters, Jeanette Briggs and Violet Smith.

Memaw found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She especially loved watching her favorite television shows, never missing an episode of Wheel of Fortune-often reminding her family with a cheerful, "Wheel of Fortune is on!" Between shows, she treasured her daily phone calls with family and friends, many of whom had a special routine of calling at the same time each day. No matter what she was doing, her beloved dog Rosie was always by her side, a constant companion and source of comfort. Memaw will be missed by all who knew her.

Preceded in death by husband, TJ Nelson; parents, George and Margaret Strong; daughter, Cheryl Wallace; and son in-law Bobby Ladd.

Survivors include her children, Donald "Don" Santaniello (Mollie), Patsy Ladd, Terry Nelson (Lisa), and Nick Santaniello (Amy); grandchildren, Brandon Ladd (Julie), TJ Nelson (Shauna), Dustin Nelson, Nicholas Santaniello (Cady), Anna Santaniello, and Amanda Mendenhall; great grandchildren, Tucker, Scarlett, Paxton and Ezekiel Ladd, Grayson Mendenhall and Georgiana Santaniello; good friend and neighbor, Jeff Weaver; good friend, Jeanne Thum, and beloved guard dog, Rosie.

The family would like to extend their special thanks to Amedisys Hospice for all their love and support.

A Visitation will be held at Companion Funeral Home of Athens on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 3:00-4:00pm, with the Funeral Service beginning at 4:00pm with Pastor Greg Hutsell officiating.
