June Jones

July 20, 1925 — June 8, 2024

June Elizabeth Hargis Jones passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024, while surrounded by family. She was just a few weeks shy of her 99th birthday. Preceding her in death were her parents, Benjamin and Beulah Lee Hargis; three brothers, Charles, William and David Hargis; and one sister, Virginia Hargis Bouterse.

A graduate of Bradley High School, she also attended Stetson University in Deland, Florida. She was a member of First Baptist Church for more than 70 years, and for many years taught an adult Sunday School class there. During her lifetime, she volunteered at the Contact Crisis Center in Cleveland and taught reading at OAR as well. She was employed for several years in the Health Services Department of Lee University. A Florida native, she jumped at any opportunity to return to watch and listen to the ocean. She was a pianist and shared her great love for music with three generations of her descendants. She also enjoyed working many types of puzzles, from crossword to jigsaw. June was also an expert quilter, quilting by hand, exquisite quilts for each of her children and grandchildren.

She was loved not only by her family, but by many others whom she touched with her wisdom, kindness, compassion, and sense of humor. If ever there was one to hear "Well done, my good and faithful servant," we know she heard it loud and clear.

Her survivors include one son, Greg Jones; three daughters, Phyllis Norman, Sharon Coyner (Mike) and Gwen Haile; three granddaughters, Ericka Legnard (John), Kellye Renker (Todd), and Jennifer O'Keefe (Chris); three grandsons, Dr. Scott Arthur (Sally), Philip Haile (Shannon Callaway), and Chris Haile (Elizabeth); 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at First Baptist Church's chapel at 6:00 p.m. A Service of Celebration of her life will follow at 7:00 p.m., with Rev. Adam Jones officiating. Burial will be the following morning at 10:00 at Hillcrest Cemetery.

You are invited to share a personal memory of June or your condolences with her family at her online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home of Cleveland and the Cody family are honored to assist the family with these arrangements.
