Judy Murphy

September 3, 1952 — April 16, 2024

Judy Kay Murphy, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend was born on September 3, 1952, and went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, with family by her side.

Judy had a heart of gold, matched only by her faith and trust in the Lord. She read the Bible daily with her mother, taking turns reading the scriptures aloud, sometimes by chapter, and others verse by verse. Judy was grounded in the Word and the truths she discovered there were unshakable. She happily shared Jesus with anyone willing to listen and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Judy was the daughter of the late Paul Marse Murphy and Hazel Bell Murphy. She was the granddaughter of the late Frank Price and Cordie Lou Price, and the late Harry Murphy and Icee Murphy. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Rebecca Ann Woody and brother-n-law, Wayne Woody, her niece, Sonya Corbit, and nephew, Allen Young. She is survived by her sister, Naomi Corbit (George), Brother, Robert Murphy (Ellen), and sister, Tammy Dunn (Dean), nephew, Mark Woody (Wendy), niece, Wendy May (Chris), niece, Tonya Young, niece, Chris Stovall (Tommy), niece, Kathy Cantrell (Stan), niece, Charity Murphy, and a special nephew, Tim Woody (Janet), who took Judy into his home, caring for her needs while also taking her and her sister, Becky, wherever they needed, or wanted to go. Judy also leaves behind a host of treasured great nephews and nieces.

Judy loved animals and trips to Cade's Cove with family. She especially loved bears, so it was always a good day if one or more were spotted on the drive through. Judy had an infinity for puzzles, the bigger the better, and if there was a game to be played, you could count Judy in.

Judy was thoughtful, often making homemade gifts for family. Her capacity to love was unmatched, and her smile genuine. Sometimes a hint of mischief twinkled in Judy's eyes, though all in good-natured fun. Her laughter brought joy to those around her and compelled them to join in. So many lives were touched by her lovingkindness. Judy was an inspiration. What an impact such a little lady made! Though Judy had limitations, she didn't allow those limitations to change who she truly was, who God created her to be. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will not be forgotten, a love that transcends ages. To have known Judy is to have been loved by Judy.

Special thanks to Open Arms Care. Words pale in comparison to all you've done, and for all you've been to Judy. You were not just caretakers, you were friends. Friends to Judy and to her family. Your love and support have truly been Heaven sent. You went above and beyond when you weren't required to do so, and the kind words you shared touched our hearts. Thank you just isn't enough. Simply put, you were and are a blessing.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Judy's name to The Gideon's International for Bible distribution. To donate online go to gideons.org or call 423-775-6510.
