Judith Christine Sorah

March 20, 1956 — May 20, 2019

Judith Christine Sorah was beamed up from the arms of her son Ryan Flowers and partner Susan Ross and the company of her many loved ones to meet her Lord and Savior at 3:01 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2019. We know she is there now, running and soaring through the skies with her mother, father, baby brother Phillip, nephew Ronnie, aunts Catherine Sorah Starnes, Evelyn Sorah Tate, and Dorothy Sorah Thurman, and many others. Born March 20, 1956 to Reverend Ronald and Mrs. Margaret Sorah, Judi was the oldest of the siblings, survived by the three remaining “J’s” – Jon (Denise) Sorah, Joe (Theresa) Sorah, and Jeanne (Stanley) McDowell. She was also survived by several aunts and uncles, including Leroy (Mary) Sorah, Denny (Ronilla) Sorah, Larry (Kay) Sorah, Carolyn Sorah Neal, Ed McCullough, Gale (Nancy) McCullough, and Zula McCullough.

Most people remember Judi as a loving mother to her multiple children (Christina (Steve) Salisbury, Nathan (Ivia) Leamon, Ryan Jackson (Brandy) Flowers, Joseph (Kayden) Griffin, Tammy Nicole Oister, and John Michael (Paige) Griffin), grandchildren (Mary Nicole Alexander, Tristen Leamon, Michael Alexander, Julian Leamon, Lillian Flowers, Linkin Flowers, Allison Oister, Kaitlyn Oister, Jacob Oister and infant Rowan Novella Griffin) and several nieces and nephews (Paul (Lindsey) Sorah, Phillip (Courtney) McDowell, Josh (Lauren) Sorah, Andrew (Alexa) Sorah, and Natalie (Dustin) Vaughn). Judi also opened her Servant’s heart to many others, some of them people she hardly knew, including the majority of the children in Calhoun. She especially loved her God, her partner Susan, and her Chris, her Sonshine, and her Ry-Ry.

In a first introduction to Judi Sorah, one might surmise that she was sweet, funny, utterly brilliant, and maybe somewhat reserved. That, however, would barely scrape the surface of who she really was. Over time, you found that Judi was heavily inclined toward music, possessing great skill with the guitar, the piano, and the organ. Her true talent, though, was her voice- boy could she SING. With her friends, family, or church, it did not matter; she opened her mouth and you could hear her love for her God. More than that, you could hear her very soul. Although ALS may have robbed her of her very speech toward the end, I am so pleased that we are hearing her beautiful voice here today once more. Judi was also an amazing writer, artist, teacher, gamer, and outright nerd. If she were here today, she would tell us that the greatest way to honor her memory would be to “Live Long and Prosper.”

In lieu of flowers, we humbly request that you consider donating to the ALS Foundation for Life in memory of Judi Sorah at: www.alsfoundation.org/give
