Joy Louise (Officer) Scoggins, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, at the age of 80. She was a woman of remarkable talent, warmth, and dedication-an artist at heart, a homemaker with boundless love, and a professional who excelled in every role she took on.
Born on November 17, 1944, to Floyd David Officer and Marie Officer, Joy grew up with a passion for learning, creativity, and community. She graduated from Bradley Central High School in 1962 and later earned her degree Magna Cum Laude from Cleveland State Community College, where she pursued her education with distinction.
Joy's career began at Cleveland Bank & Trust, where she worked for 35 years before retiring. Never one to shy away from new opportunities, she transitioned to working remotely for Whirlpool in Customer Service. There, she continued to excel, earning promotions during her five years with the company before retiring for a second time.
Joy shared a lifelong bond with her partner, Jerry Scoggings. In her later years, Jerry became her devoted caregiver, ensuring she was surrounded by love and support.
In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her brothers, David Officer and Dennis Officer.
She is survived by her sons, Scot Harvey and Jody Harvey; her grandsons, Dylan Harvey (Autumn) and Sidney Harvey; and her granddaughters, Lauren Soos (Josh), Jade, Scottie, and Raina. Her life long partner, Jerry. She also leaves behind her cherished great-granddaughters, Halle and Allison, and her great-grandsons, Zack and Liam. Joy is further survived by her brother, Darrell Officer, along with three nieces and four nephews, all of whom will carry forward her legacy of love and strength.
Joy had a gift for making a house a home, creating warmth and beauty in every space she touched. Her creativity, kindness, and unwavering support left a lasting impact on all who knew her. She was a source of love, wisdom, and guidance-a steady presence whose influence will be felt for generations to come.
Her legacy of strength and love will continue to live on through the lives she touched. Nanny Joy's memory will be cherished forever by those who loved her.
