Joseph “Joe” Gerald Ghrist

Joseph “Joe” Gerald Ghrist, 87, died Friday, April 30, 2022, at his residence.

Joe was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland, a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean War, and a member of Fraternal Order of the Freemasons. He was employed at Life Care Center of America in Cleveland for many years and retired from Hudson Companies of Chattanooga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Nina Bernice Ghrist, brother John Henry Ghrist, former spouse Doris Fulks Ghrist and a beloved son Joseph Henry Ghrist.

Survived by his loving wife JoAnn Lane Ghrist; son Thomas G. (Debbie) Ghrist, of Knoxville, TN; daughter Jill L. Lane of Cleveland; two granddaughters Natalie K. Ghrist of Cleveland and Savannah J. Ghrist of Knoxville; sister, Nancy Ousley, of Florida, two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Thomas and Peggy Crye of Cleveland, Lillian Trotter of Cleveland, and Ray Chism of South Pittsburg; a daughter-in-law Debbie Ghrist Patten (Lou), of Cleveland and three generations of nieces and nephews.

Rev. Jim Gibson of First Baptist Church will officiate a memorial service for the family at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Companion Funeral Home chapel. A special Thank You to Geneva Thurmond, Alexis Roberts, Erin Jenne and the caregivers of Hospice of Chattanooga for their kindness and support.
