Rev. Joseph "Joe" Hicks of Sweetwater, TN died peacefully in his sleep on January 18, 2024 with his family by his side. He was born August 24, 1947, and was 76 years old. Joe pastored several churches in the area and loved singing and playing the guitar and piano. He enjoyed carpentry work, and baling hay with his Massy Ferguson tractor.
He was survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Willa Dean Hicks. His daughter, Trish (Jeff) Walker, grandson Lucas Walker (Kim) and 2 beautiful great granddaughters Hadley and Lakeley Walker, and their mom, Allie Bales. Sisters: Gracie (Boyd) Harville, Josephine Farrell, Geneva (Ken) Morris, and Jimmie (Bill) Hamilton. Brothers: Billy Hicks, Johnny (Carol) Hicks, Gene (Tracy) Hicks, and Dean (Vickie) Hicks. Brother-in-law: James (Donna) Long and sister-in-law Faye Hicks. He had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Noah & Sarah Pike Hicks. Two brothers: Isaac and Henry Hicks and sister Lois Dodson Tompkins. A son-in-law, Keith Loudermilk.
The funeral will be Monday, January 22, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Meadow Fork Baptist Church in Calhoun, TN. The visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. before the service with the burial immediately following in the church cemetery. Eric Peters and Benny Watson will be officiating with the Day Family singing at the funeral. The family, led by his brother Johnny Hicks will sing the final song Amazing Grace at the Graveside.
Pallbearers will be Lucas Walker (Grandson), Johnny Hicks (Brother) along with R.L. Hicks (Cousin), Glen Estes (Nephew-in-law), Ray Ingram (fellow minister), and Jimmy Coffman (fellow musician). Honorary pall bearers Dean and Gene Hicks (brothers).
