John William Burgess

John William “Bill” Burgess, 92, a longtime resident of Cleveland, TN passed away on Friday morning, December 30th, 2016 at his home. He was born in Polk County, TN on April 4th, 1924 a son of the late William & Martha Burgess. He worked for many years at General Motors as a welder. John was of the Seventh-day Adventist Faith. He enjoyed gardening, storytelling and fixing anything that needed fixing.

In addition to his parents, siblings Wayne Burgess, Wade Burgess, Pauline Burgess and Inez Smith, as well as several half brothers and sisters.

John leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 66 years Geraldine Pack Burgess, four children Wm. David Burgess (Lynn) , James Burgess (Jeneen), Pamela Shelnut (Clarence) and Vicki Ledford, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, special granddaughter who was his caretaker for the last couple years-Jessi Ledford, numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.

A celebration of his life is planned for Tuesday afternoon, January 3rd, 2017 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home located at 2419 Georgetown Road NW in Cleveland, TN with the Reverend Josh Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The interment and committal service will conclude with full military honors.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening, January 2nd, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home parlor.
