John William "Big Bill" Davis

John William, "Big Bill," Davis passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 16th.  He was the son of the late Johnny and Mamie Davis.  Bill was a lifelong resident of Cleveland, TN where he served as a former Deputy Sherriff.  He worked as a salesman in the used car industry.  Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Philippi Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother and father, Bill is preceded in death by a son in law: Sam Shamblin, one brother: Robert Davis (Oralee), and one great grandson: Kaiden Farkas.  He leaves behind the following family members to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Virginia Davis, three sons: Bobby Davis and Billy Davis (Linda), Jimmy Ellis (Carolyn), Jerry Ellis, two daughters: Judy Shamblin and Janna Casteel (Waymon), one brother: Larry Davis (Barbara), two brothers in law: Robert Lee (Evelyn) and Larry Presswood, one sister: Willie Cantrell of Chula Vista, CA, and one sister in law: Lynda Suggs. Bill leaves behind six grandchildren: Sean Cawood, J.D. Davis, Amy Farkas (Daryl), Adam Casteel (Lisa), Jami Standridge (Kenneth), and Jennifer Ellis.  He also leaves behind eight great grandchildren: Keegan, Karly, Khloe, and Knox Farkas, Carter and Cooper Casteel, Kenny and Dez Davis.
The family will receive friends on Thursday October 18th from 3:00pm-7:00pm at Philippi Baptist Church located at 2325 Old Harrison Pike NW, Cleveland, TN 37311. The funeral ceremony will follow the visitation at 7:00pm at the church with Dr. Sammy Hooker officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Friday October 19th at 11:00am.
Wesley Davis, Steve Davis, Daryl Farkas, Sean Cawood, Jackie Burrell, and Adam Casteel will serve as Pallbearers.  Bob Porter and Dale Elkins will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Gideons International.
