Obituary

John Thomas Smith, 76, a resident of Athens, TN passed away on Saturday morning, August 10th, 2013 at his home. John was born in Monroe County, TN on September 10th, 1936. He was retired from the Athens Bed Company after forty two years of service. He and his late wife Ruby enjoyed going camping, going to the mountains, his five grandchildren and traveling to watch his grandson Cody go dirt biking and until he was unable, working on his farm.

John is preceded in death by his wife of fifty one years Ruby N. Webb Smith who passed away on February 9th, 2013. He is also preceded in death by his parents Riley David and Mable Dawson Smith, his brother David Fredrick Smith, his grandparents John and Mary Self Smith and Joseph A “Joe” and Hattie Holt Dawson, and one granddaughter Alyssa Smith.

John leaves behind to cherish his memory one son Tim D. Smith and his wife Rachel, his five grandchildren Cody, Brandi, Christi, Garrett and Tori, one sister Jo Ann Bledsoe and her husband Bill of Cleveland, TN, two beloved aunts Dorothy Dawson Frisbie and Anna Smith Johnson, his uncle Kenneth “Chick” Dawson of Rockford, IL, three nieces, one nephew, and many cousins, extended family members and friends.

The family will hold a memorial gathering on Sunday, November 17th, 2013 from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the family home located at 340 County Road 370 in Athens, TN.
