John Murphy Whited, 62, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015 at NHC in Dunlap surrounded by family, following a long race with Alzheimer's.
He leaves behind his son, Johnny Whited; his daughter, Rebecca Whited-Summers; his grandson, Myles Freeman; two brothers, Jack (Ann) Whited and Phillip Whited; one sister, Jean (Vern) Levan; 10 nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; several cousins; and many close friends.
Born and raised in Whitwell, the son of Murphy and Margie (Floyd) Whited, he was a lifelong resident of Whitwell Mountain.
In his early years, Mr. Whited helped his grandparent's John Early and Nannie Caroline Floyd, on their farm. After finishing school, he traveled out West. He returned to Whitwell mountain, where he started his family. He worked as a logger, then as a coal miner.
Mr. Whited had a passion for the outdoors. He loved deer hunting, camping, fishing and his overalls. His eyes would always brighten when telling stories and spending time with family and friends.
In the last years, he was always smiling, looking for some "good groceries" and for his grandson to come around the corner. A special Thank-you to the staff of NHC of Dunlap, for all the love and excellent care.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3pm, December 27th at Greens Chapel Church of Whitwell Mountain, with special friends Dwight Bryant and Larry Long conducting the service. His ashes will be spread in the cove, where he loved to camp and hunt.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s organization.
Companion Funeral Home and the Cody family are honored to assist the Whited family with his arrangements.
