John Michael “Butch” Raper a resident of Ooltewah, TN and former resident of Athens, TN passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Life Care of Ooltewah. He attended McMinn County High School, Tennessee Military Academy where he excelled in football and baseball. He was voted as a member of the All Mid-South Teams 2 years straight. Butch attended Hiwassee College and Tennessee Wesleyan University. He worked in the family business Athens Poultry and Egg until its closing. Butch was with Mayfield Dairy as plant manager in the Atlanta (Smyrna) Georgia plant. He retired as Distribution Director. Butch was a member of the Meridian Sun Lodge #50 F & AM and Athenian Chapter # 159 O.E.S.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles B. (C.B.) and Elizabeth Raper.
Butch leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Cynthia (Cindy) B. Raper of Ooltewah, sister Yvonne Raper of Athens and brother and sister-in-law “Monte” & Bridgett Raper of Athens and his extended family members. Butch is also survived by the siblings of the late Marshall & Dorothy Arnwine (his “other mother”), Lisa A. Dotson, Twana A. Ferguson, Gene, Ronnie, Donnie, Wayman, and Anthony Arnwine
A graveside service is planned for Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 7:00 PM in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Mrs. Lisa Arnwine Dotson and Dr. Charles Ensminger officating .
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorial donations be made to the Allen Memorial United Methodist Church in Butch’s memory.
