John Hickman

John David Hickman, age 84, of Birchwood, TN, left this earthly home on February 19, 2025 to join his wife, Joyce Dean. She passed away just 12 weeks ago on November 27, 2024. John was the ninth child of thirteen children born to Arthur and Ethel Buffington Hickman on February 11, 1941. He was born on the family farm in Ooltewah, TN. John was the last living son of 7 boys.

Before retiring, John was employed for 30 plus years at Vincent Printing in Chattanooga, TN. He worked alongside local artists Ben Hampton and Larry Dodson. He enjoyed gardening, in which, over the years he grew many vegetables that he and Joyce would can, to enjoy during the winter months. He also loved listening to classic country music, as he sang along to the old country tunes, tapping his foot to the music.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ethel Hickman; wife of 62 years, Joyce Dean Hickman; brothers, Jack, Tom, Clyde, Billy, Carroll Gene, and Raymond Lee Hickman; sisters, Janie Fuller and Juanita Ramey.

John is survived by his two daughters, Sheila Lindsey (Alvin) and Mary Ann Smith; grandchildren, Andrew Goodner, Amy Goodner Basham (Trista) and Jeremy Lindsey (Mary Beth); great grandchildren, Shay Lindsey, Nevaeh Lindsey, Katrina Smith and Landon Smith; sisters, Mary Lucille Sims, Jewell Ward, LaDonna Davis, and Opal Ruth Slater; in-laws, Lynda Hickman, Ben Williams, Doug Williams (Linda), Margaret Hewitt, Jerry Williams (Shirley) and Nancy Williams; special friends, Alan and Sandra Wilsey and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral services at this time. There will be a graveside service at McIntruff Cemetery in Birchwood at a later date.
