John Gilbert Ensley

January 17, 1933 — February 7, 2021

John Gilbert Ensley, 88, of Cohutta, GA, passed away on February 7, 2021, after a brief illness.
Gilbert was born on January 17, 1933, to Will and Winnie Ensley in Cleveland, TN. After graduating from Cohutta High School in 1950, he went to work for Dupont in Chattanooga, TN. He was drafted in 1952 and served three years in the Army. He returned to Dupont where he worked for a total of 35 years. He was also a farmer, operating a beef cattle and chicken farm for many years.
He married Sylvia Whaley Ensley in 1953 and went on to have two children.
He is predeceased by two brothers, Leon Ensley and Bob Ensley. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia. Also, he is survived by his son, Terry (Liz); his daughter Shirley; 12 grandchildren; eight brothers, Jim, Glen, Ralph, Wayne, Roy, Earnest, Jerry, and Albert Ensley; and, two sisters, Wilma Sue Graham and Myrtle Parks.
The graveside service at Mt Pleasant Cemetery on Mt Pleasant Rd, Cohutta, Georgia, on Sunday, February 14, at 1:30 pm will be conducted by his grandson, the Rev. James Ensley, and there will be a ceremony by the Masons, in which he was a long-term member.
