John Payne Bozony formerly from Saratoga Springs NY, Ridgecrest CA and lastly Cleveland TN, on March 21, 2025 has passed on to the great beyond. He was husband to Sandra Lee Bozony whom he was married to for 59 years and passed September 23, 2022. He leaves behind two loving sons, John M. Bozony and James R. Bozony of Lynnwood WA. John was born in Saratoga Springs on March 3, 1938, to John L. and Ruth Edna Bozony. He is survived by his brother William L. Bozony.
John joined the Navy in 1957 and served 31 years reaching the rank of AVCM Master Chief E-9. He bought a home in Ridgecrest after being transferred to duty station China Lake in 1969. He bounced back and forth between China Lake and NAS Miramar throughout the rest of his career, giving a solid location to raise the family. While stationed at NAS Marimar he would commute home every couple of weeks to enjoy family time. He completely loved his Naval Service and was rightly proud of it. Deploying multiple times to aircraft carriers like CV-60 Saratoga, CV-61 Ranger and the CV-64 Constellation let him see the world. During this time, he was responsible for many aircraft like F-4 Phantoms, A-4 Skyhawks and F-14 Tomcats. He served in Fighter Squadrons VF-21 Freelancers and the VF-211 Fighting Checkmates with distinction. Some of his Naval commendations are as follows: Seven good conduct awards. Vietnam Service Medal with bronze star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with bronze star, Navy Achievement Medal with two bronze stars, National Defense Service Medal, Battle "E" Award. He also graduated at the top of his class in his Senior Enlisted Academy in Oct. 1984. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Chapman College with concentrations on psychology, sociology and history.
His life after retirement in 1988 from the Navy included getting his real estate and broker's license, remodeling homes and concentrating on his many rental properties in Ridgecrest. In 2008 John and Sandra moved to Cleveland TN to be closer to her friend Phyllis Galloway and get out of the heat of Ridgecrest. They both enjoyed taking cruise ship vacations to Alaska, The Carribean and even Australia. He enjoyed going to his high school reunions.
Once in Cleveland John found friendly faces at the YMCA and enjoyed going there to work out. Ken and Linda Wilds were especially great friends to both, and we really appreciate the Wilds' friendship. John and Sandra will be inurned together at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga TN. Final arrangements are being handled by Companion Funeral and Cremation Service, Cleveland Chapel. You are invited to leave your warm words of comfort and precious memories for the family in our online guestbook.
