Jo Ann Lowrance

January 18, 1930 — December 21, 2023

Jo Ann Cantrell Lowrance, affectionately known as Nurse Jo, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023. Jo Ann was born in Sweetwater, TN on January 18, 1930, on the farm of her maternal grandparents, W.H. and Lena Small. She lived there for 18 years. After graduating high school, she moved to Chattanooga to enroll in Erlanger School of Nursing, graduating in 1951. This is where she met the love of her life, Red Lowrance, who drove an ambulance. He brought a DOA into the hospital, and the rest was history. They were married on February 22, 1952, and were married for 63 years.

Jo Ann was known for her cooking. She worked full time, and still had a home cooked meal on the table every night for her family. She had a way of being funny without meaning to be. She worked at several positions in nursing; with her last job at the Cleveland City Schools. She served eight schools until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband Charles "Red" Lowrance, her granddaughter Jennifer Sprouse, her mother Zelma Meskiewicz, her father Alton Cantrell, and her brothers Freddy and Franklin Meskiewicz.

Jo Ann is survived by her son Charles "Butch" Lowrance (Rita), her daughter Leigh Ann Sprouse, grandson James Sprouse, her sister Linda Garni (Joe), and her good friend Edith Webb.

A graveside service will be held at a later date.
