Jesse Davis

Jesse Leon Davis, passed away peacefully in Georgetown, Tennessee, on January 13, 2024, at the age of 95. Born to a sharecropper's family in Tri-Une, TN, on April 8, 1928. He spent his boyhood in Chapel Hill, where he attended Forest School.

During his young adulthood, Jesse answered the call to serve his country and became a heavy equipment sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War. After returning from Korea, Jesse relocated to Chattanooga in 1953 and began a new chapter of his life by marrying Emma Louise Thurman.

Jesse's professional career was spent on the road as he retired from Roadway Express in 1991. An ordained Deacon, he served with love and devotion at Eastview and Elkmont Baptist Churches and was a faithful member of Philippi Baptist Church until his final days.

The patriarch of a large and loving family, Jesse experienced the sorrow of outliving his beloved first wife, Emma Louise Davis, and his second wife, Betty Lane Davis. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Frank and Bonnie Davis, Robert Lee Davis, Samuel C Davis, Lizzie Nobblett, MaeBell Adair, Kathline Pugh, Daisey Eldrege, Judy Foster, and Frances Kitchens.

Jesse's legacy will be cherished and carried on by his surviving family members. He is lovingly remembered by his son Tim Davis and wife Edna, his brother Carl Davis and wife Peggy, his sister Adie Youngblood and husband Billy; his grandson Aaron and wife Arica, and his great-granddaughters, Katie and Bekah. Jesse's memory will also be treasured by his stepchildren Debbie Harwood, Dennis Still and wife Laura, Jeff Still and wife Misty, and Sherrie Bowman and husband Gregg, his step-grandchildren, Michael Harwood, Zack-Cameron Bowman, Bryan Still, Ben Still, and the large circle of nieces and nephews whose lives he touched.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 19, 2024, from 4-7 PM at Philippi Baptist Church in Cleveland, TN. The Funeral Service will then take place at the church, following the visitation. The interment will be on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Lakewood Memory Gardens East in Chattanooga. Pastors Richard Sisk and Josh Stock to officiate. Pallbearers will include Greg Davis, Jason Davis, Travis Davis, Dennis Still and Jeff Still.
