Jerry Dwayne Moates, 72, of Sweetwater Tennessee, passed away suddenly of a heart attack February 10, 2021. The son of Fred and Louise Moates and brother to Billy Don was born in Pulaski Tennessee. He met his loving wife of 52 years, Peggy, at the University of Tennessee where he graduated in 1969 and began a career as an Accountant. Accounting however could never fulfill the creative force within him. He designed and built his own home, could fix any mechanical engine, was a master chef and inventor of the famous Jerry’s Baked Beans, and most recently a gentleman farmer. He was a man of integrity, had an incredible ease with perfect strangers, and above all else, was completely dedicated to his family.
He is survived by his wife Peggy, his three children and their spouses Ben and Alice Moates, Heather and Bill Broussard, and Jenny and Jeff Easterly, and his six grandchildren, Bailey, Madeline, Ellie, Maggie, Sophie, and Mary Katherine.
It is through his family that his legacy will continue to shine the brightest, as that was his proudest achievement in life.
We miss you terribly and will hold you in our hearts forever Dad.
A Private Family Memorial to follow. You are encouraged to share a memory of Jerry and/or your personal condolences with his family by visiting his memorial webpage and guestbook at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home of Athens is honored to assist his family with these arrangements.
