Mrs. Janie Lou Benson, 87, of Cleveland, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 24, 2024. She was born on March 17, 1937 in Dunlap, TN to the late Matilda Jane Shutters (Counts) and Walter Lee Shutters. She is preceded in death by her loving husband William James Benson and many brothers and sisters; Elizabeth, James, Samuel, Frances, Edna, Cora Lee, Beulah, Ida Bell, and Charles. She was a member of Keith Street Church of God of Prophecy. She served the Lord with joy and dedication as she ministered with her family through singing. The Benson Family traveled to sing about the gospel of Jesus throughout the Southeast United States. Her joy for life was felt by many as they sat at her table. She was a gifted seamstress, hostess, gardener, and cook. She enjoyed her family and friends most of all. She loved to make people laugh and spread joy. She drew you in as hers and built deep relationships with those around her. Her life told the story of Christ and his love for the church in every fingerprint she left. She was greatly loved by all who knew her. Her passion for life was contagious. She is survived by her five children Mike Benson (Linda Benson) of Chattanooga, Donna Hagel, Howard Benson of Cleveland, Marty Benson (Tina Benson) of Cleveland, and Bryan Benson (Sheree Benson) of Ooltewah, nine grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on December 1st, 2024 at Keith Street Church of God of Prophecy from 3pm until 5pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held following. The burial and graveside service will be held at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson at 11:00am on Monday, December 2nd.
