James Robert Frye, 64, of Athens, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2022. James was born on March 15, 1958, In Athens to the late Raymond and Betty Frye. James served in the United States Navy and was a karate instructor for many years obtaining his black belt in karate. James was of the Pentecostal faith and was an ordained minister. He enjoyed going on mission trips to Mozambique, Africa with is great friend and former co-pastor Gary Slater.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Frye; his son, Benjamin Jack; grandmother, Carrie Frye; uncle, Tommy Frye Sr.; and his best friend, James Wilson.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughters, April Frye, and Chassity Jack; grandchildren, Jordan (Brittany) Slater, Bailey (Ethan) Shelton, Bella Swicegood, Kelcie Fayne, and Gavin Jackson; great grandson, Jaxson Shelton; niece, Brittany Morrow, and his nephew, Mithcell (Tiffany) Frye; along with a host of several aunts, uncles, extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022 at Companion Funeral Home of Athens at 2:00 pm with Pastor Gary Slater officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm prior to the service. The Interment is to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Athens, Tennessee.
